Montbrun-les-Bains

Montbrun les Bains is a medieval village nestled on the borders of Vaucluse, Drôme and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the Regional Natural Park of Baronnies Provençales created in 2014. It is classified among the 100 most beautiful villages in France. The village is spared from the summer heatwave thanks to its height (around 800m high). The site is also protected from the Mistral by the relief. It has been awarded the Green Station label, the 1st ecotourism label in France.

The Regional Natural Parc des Baronnies Provençales, created in 2014, is the realm of scents of lavender, thyme and rosemary, at the crossroads of Alpine and Provençal influences.


History

Some vestiges of prehistoric dwellings, of the Romans who used the village water for its virtues, a barony which reigned for centuries, Charles Dupuy Montbrun, etc.

Biodiversity

Clad in cliffs inhabited by large raptors (including vultures), the Provençal Drôme conceals an astonishing biodiversity! More than 149 natural habitat sites coexist and allow the flourishing of around 2,000 plant species (including 22 considered priority in terms of conservation) and 203 animal species protected at national or regional level.

Markets

  • The weekly market takes place every Saturday morning: fresh and healthy products, organic, producers, merchants or artisans, etc.

  • From mid-April to mid-September you can also enjoy on Mondays (at 4 p.m.), a Hautes Baronnies farmers market.

  • The cheese and arts and crafts market is organized during the month of April.

Events

  • On the 1st Sunday of July, the Ferrassières Lavender Festival announces the start of the lavender harvest.

  • You will be able to discover remarkable natural sites such as the Aulan gorges and its fairy-tale castle, the Toulourenc Valley, the Nesque Gorges.

  • There are also the villages of Rheihanette, Savoillans and Brantes in the extension of the Toulourenc valley. Moreover the vast lavender-covered spaces of Sault, Ferrassières and the Albion plateau, and finally, Barret de Lioure, a hilltop village that faces at Mont Ventoux.

  • The Mont Ventoux, also called "The Giant of Provence", culminating at 1912m, is a mythical mountain in the history of Provence. From its summit, it reveals one of the largest panoramas in Europe, overlooking the Rhône Valley, the Baronnies and the Vaucluse plateau. It presents a variety of landscapes and a vegetation varying according to the altitude: 400 floristic genera, more than 1000 species of plants on five stages of vegetation.
